About Frederick
Although Frederick is a senior citizen, he has never lost his youthful idealism and passion in the practice of art. Born in 1946, in Valletta, Frederick Gingell, from a very young age, showed a talent in design. He formally initiated his art education at the Malta School of Arts in 2000 for three years, and continued his studies under the direction of Harry Alden, under whom he developed his distinctive style. From several years ago, Frederick fostered an appreciation in all branches of art. Being in contact with so many different forms of art, is what later inspired Frederick's personal style as an artist by tapping this knowledge and combining his skills in design and creativity into fine expressions on canvas. The effect is a rich variety of art communicated through different media, colours and textures, which today, form the basis of his collection. Frederick’s collection is not limited to work in oil on canvas, but includes bas relief, oil on plaster, and collage in wood. The artist has developed an elegant style of maximizing the potential of the palette: an alchemist on the palette; mixing hues into new blends; employs colours “to personify my work”. He started participating in collective exhibitions in 2004. The positive response encouraged him to hold three solo exhibitions. He is a member of a group of artists, known as The Studio Collective. Together they put up a number of exhibitions. Frederick’s works are mainly in private collections. Apart from Malta, he has works in the United Kingdom, Australia, France, Canada, Russia and Italy. |
